Shopping for your curlfriends can be a conquerable task, if you ask me. I think I never really gave it much thought until this project. So, I thought, ‘if I could only give five gifts to a new or seasoned naturalista, what would they be?’ By new, I mean freshly big chopped, and by seasoned, I mean being in the natural hair game three (plus) years. She has cut, colored, mastered many styles and gained much experience with her hair. If you need a little help this holiday season for what to get either of these ladies, here’s what I came up with…
My number one choice of gift would be a hair tool!
In the past, I only finger detangled, but the Denman brush and Tangle Teezers changed my life! The Denman brush gained uber popularity this year and is all over social media with naturalistas everywhere encouraging others to try, so I did, and loved it. Whichever you choose for your curlfriend, it is sure to make her wash day a little bit easier!
Of course, you can’t leave out the fro pick. This is a dear friend to my hair that I met a little late in my journey. I could never figure out why my hair didn’t look as big and full as all these natural hair gurus. Then I discovered the fro pick and the game was forever changed! I feel like you can never have too many fro picks and besides, don’t hair accessories ALWAYS come up missing? I’d say every naturalista needs a few in her stash.
My next suggestion is a travel kit!
Travel kits are an easy and inexpensive way for new curlfriends to get their feet wet without having to pay a lot of money. They get to try different products to see what they do and don’t like without having to buy the full product just yet. Uncle Funky’s Daughter has a great travel kit that contains all their best-sellers! It’s a great way to test the line, see what you enjoy about the products AND how they work together for your hair. That’s what makes it an awesome gift! The Ultimate Travel Kit comes with Midnite Train Leave In Conditioner, Supercurl Miracle Moisture Crème, Extra Butter Curl Forming Crème, Curly Magic Curl Stimulator and Thirsty Curls Leave In Curl Revitalizer. The Extra Butter Curl Forming Crème is my favorite styler in this collection; it has a thick and creamy consistency that my hair loves! I like to try different stylers to see which combinations work best with my hair, so I really like the fact that the travel kit comes with more than one styler and all the things I need to create a great style.
My last piece of advice is to give her something LUXE that solves a hair problem. If she struggles with dryness or damage, help her protect her hair with satin scarves, bonnets and pillowcases!
All of these are MUST haves for every naturalista. They make waking up in the morning easy breezy. If your curlfriend already has one or two… It’s okay! You can never have too many of these because when she is laying her edges or protecting her hair for sleep, she will be reaching for one of these items.
