It may be in the form of taking up a new physical hobby, like cycling, or spending some time at your local gym lifting weights. Whatever the case may be, your curly tresses are just as important as the rest of your body. Knowing how to take care of your hair while being physically active is important. We chatted with Canadian Olympic track and field hopeful Shai-Anne Davis about how she cares for her hair with a rigorous training schedule.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unlike other athletes, this British Columbia curlista didn\u2019t find her passion for running until just a few years ago. Attending a co-ed basketball camp in 2008, Shai-Anne was one of two girls on the team. \u201cWe would always start the day with suicide lines, and we\u2019d make it a race. I would always win, beating all the guys.\u201d Shai-Anne reminisced. She began running competitively at the urging of her coaches and has since won medals in international track meets in 2013 and 2014. With such a rigorous training schedule, she admits she faces some challenges when it comes to taking care of her hair on a daily basis. \u201cCertain mornings, you wake up, and you\u2019re just exhausted.\u201d Shai-Anne confessed. Still, she wants to \u201ccontinue to do my hair and treat my hair the right way\u201d by deep conditioning her hair once a week, and detangling 2-3 times a week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShaiAnne_curly_mohawk_-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-304\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-318 \" src=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShaiAnne_curly_mohawk_-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a>Sporting her trademark curly mohawk during her workouts, she refreshes her curls afterwards with <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/thirsty-curls.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thirsty Curls Leave-In Revitalizer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThirsty Curls has been such a help with maintaining fresh curls.\u201d To achieve her mohawk, she combines small portions of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/curly-magic.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Curly Magic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/shop-online\/good-hair.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good Hair<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and water in her hands, and applies the mixture to her hair. She then holds the hair together using three banana clips.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shai-Anne offered us some other great tips for taking care of our naturally curly tresses while being physically active:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #d90dc4;\"><strong>Avoid headbands.<\/strong><\/span> Wearing headbands for an extended period of time can eventually damage hair your hair around the edges. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #d90dc4;\">Cleanse your hair regularly, especially if you wear a protective style.<\/span><\/strong> You don\u2019t have immediate access to your hair in a protective style, and build-up from sweating and the outer elements can go undetected if not cleansed regularly. For Shai-Anne, whenever she wears a protective style, she uses <a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/defunk.html\">Defunk<\/a> as a quick cleanser that you don\u2019t have to rinse out. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #d90dc4;\">Moisturize your hair at night.<\/span><\/strong> Before heading to bed, apply a moisturizer \u2014 either as a spray or a cream \u2014 to your hair. You can then braid\/twist your hair, or put it up in a pineapple with a satin scarf, if your hair is long enough. This replenishes the moisture lost while working out and allows key nutrients to penetrate your tresses overnight. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShaiAnne_on_field.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-306\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-306 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/unclefunkysdaughter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/ShaiAnne_on_field.jpg\" alt=\"ShaiAnne_on_field\" width=\"340\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #d90dc4;\"><strong>Pay attention to your scalp.<\/strong><\/span> \u201cI have to really listen to my scalp,\u201d Shai-Anne tells us. \u201cIf your scalp starts to itch, it\u2019s time to wash it.\u201d <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Watch your diet in conjunction to being physically active. \u201cYour diet will help you get fit way faster than exercise.\u201d A good diet is also great for your hair in general. Eggs, for example, contain biotin, which stimulate hair growth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"color: #d90dc4;\"><strong>Don\u2019t make excuses for yourself.<\/strong><\/span> Shai-Anne explains why: \u201cThe moment you make an excuse for yourself, you\u2019re just putting yourself a step back from where you should be.\u201d Stay committed to your workout plans, no matter what unexpected events come your way.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shai-Anne\u2019s demanding workout schedule may seem intimidating to some. But whether your goals for 2016 include a daily trip to the gym or a walk around the neighborhood once\u00a0a week, keep these healthy hair tips in mind.
