It\u2019s summer time! We\u2019re modifying our hair routines to handle the heat and humidity (or dryness depending on where you live), looking for cute styles we can wear to the beach, picnics, vacations, & weekend brunches with friends… Summer hair care is all about protecting and moisturizing your hair so it can handle all your activities and still look fabulous.<\/span><\/p>\n

For my naturals that love to wear their hair big and bold, you want to focus on moisture. The weather can really take a toll on our hair, especially kinkier hair types. The heat from the sun, free radicals, chemicals and dissolved salts in water contribute to dryness which can lead to severe split ends, knots or even hair thinning. I personally love what I call my \u201cUFD moisture power pack,\u201d that serves me well during the winter and fall and I modify it a little for the summer. It normally consists of Midnite Train Leave-In Conditioner<\/a>, Supercurl Miracle Moisture Cr\u00e8me<\/a>\u00a0and Extra Butter Curl Forming Cr\u00e8me<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Protective styling is one of my favorite things to do to fight the summer heat!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

During the summer, I like to swap Midnite Train<\/a> for Thirsty Curls Leave-In Curl Revitalizer, and I focus more on Supercurl<\/a> compared to Extra Butter<\/a> because it is a bit lighter and more hydrating. I prefer heavier creams like Extra Butter<\/a> during colder months. Thirsty Curls is a lightweight mist that helps condition, revive and protect your curls and kinks. It\u2019s also perfect for anytime you want to quickly mist and zhoosh up your hair before stepping out. The products also smell amazing, and that\u2019s always a huge plus whenever you wear your hair big and bold.<\/span><\/p>\n

For my girls that love protective styles: braids, twists, faux locs, crochet, wigs, you want to focus on moisture as well and also maintaining your style. You can use the regular moisture power pack with Midnite Train<\/a>, Supercurl<\/a> and Extra Butter<\/a>. Since Extra Butter<\/a> is a thick cream, it will lock in all the moisture in your hair while it\u2019s braided or twisted up, to reduce the rate of dryness. The products also help to prep your hair and make it soft for the installation. <\/span><\/p>\n

Another UFD product I highly recommend is Curly Magic Curl Stimulator<\/a>. Since it has a gel-like consistency, it\u2019s perfect for smoothing out your roots before braiding or twisting. This helps to keep strands of hair in place so your hairstyle comes out neater and it can last longer.<\/span><\/p>\n
