October is widely known for the focus on Breast Cancer Awareness, and we were honored to contribute to this cause through our #curloutcancer campaign. Breast cancer directly and indirectly affects all of us, with 1 in every 8 American women diagnosed in their lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking care of ourselves can be taxing on top of taking care of our families, but it’s more important than we sometimes make it!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s important to remember that wearing a pink tee or ribbon or posting about the cause aren’t all we should require ourselves to do in\u00a0any<\/em>\u00a0month. Let’s commit to become better advocates for ourselves and the women around us regarding our physical and mental health!<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some tips for how you can start this:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Walk! Take a walk with your family after dinner, or choose to take the stairs versus the elevator. You can even purposely park your car further from the door when you make your weekly Target trip. Get your heart pumping whenever possible and get those steps in!<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Increase the amount of health-related reading material you ingest. Even if you’re just subscribing to health magazines or following them on social media, it’s best to make a practice of even\u00a0unintentionally<\/em>\u00a0receiving information that can help your health or that of your family!<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Lead by example. Stray away from posting myths or misconceptions about women’s health or health in general. Make the decision to post factual, credited info to help your girlfriends out there! In the age of the internet, it’s very easy to see tips and assume they’re factual and helpful, but aren’t at the end of the day. If anything, make suggestions to consult a physician or expert when it comes to those around you who have questions.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Don’t forget to self test (and don’t put off going to the doctor)! The person who can best take care of you and your body is\u00a0YOU<\/b>! Despite your busy schedule and catering to the needs of those around you, it’s crucial you take the time to take care of yourself.<\/span><\/li>\n

    Our team is so excited to do our first walk for the cure and would love to have our Funky Junkies alongside us this Saturday!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    Last but not least, join a cause. Muhammad Ali once said, “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.” Becoming a part of something that helps or brings awareness to an issue that affects others is the key to this life.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I am putting my blog into action by gathering a few curlfriends together this Saturday, November 9th in Houston for the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides” for Breast Cancer Walk!
