Maintaining natural hair during the Winter months is in my opinion, the most important time to show our hair some extra TLC.<\/a> The cold air not only dries out our hair and scalp, but it can also lead to hair becoming brittle and breaking if we neglect it. I\u2019m going to share with you some of the things I do during the wintertime to make sure that my hair is well taken care of, and lives to see another Spring!<\/p>\n

Healthy hair requires a combination of moisturizing products<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

First off, I don\u2019t wash as often as I do in the warmer months, simply because my scalp can\u2019t handle it. It will become very dry and itchy, also I don\u2019t want to walk around with a wet or damp head while the temperatures are low. When I do wash my hair, I like to use a moisturizing shampoo or cleanser versus a clarifying one. The Uncle Funky\u2019s Daughter Rich & Funky<\/a> is perfect for that. It\u2019s sulfate-free, super moisturizing, and helps with detangling<\/a>, all while cleansing the hair and scalp!<\/p>\n

One of the absolute most important steps to take during the colder months is to deep condition! I like to deep condition during each wash day during this time, simply because the cold air isn\u2019t very gentle on my scalp or hair. Struggling with dry scalp during winter means I need to amp up the moisture being put into my scalp and strands. Deep conditioning with heat is the best way to do that. Heal & Renew<\/a> is packed with silk proteins and an amazing group of oils \u2014 along with aloe vera juice \u2014 that help to revitalize, replenish and moisturize<\/a> the strands. Feeling the peppermint<\/a> oil cooling on my scalp is one of the best feelings ever!<\/p>\n

Creams are essential for a great twist\/ braid out<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

When it comes to styling, I usually stick with simple protective styles<\/a>. Two-strand twists or a twist out is always my go-to method<\/a>. When installing my twists, I love to use thick creams or kinds of butter that I know will not only penetrate my hair and provide plenty of moisture, but also deliver shine and hold. During the winter months, I can go without using a gel and that\u2019s where Extra Butter<\/a> shines! The main ingredient is shea butter, which happens to be one of my favorite butters to use in my hair as well as my skin! It helps to add shine, a powerhouse of moisture, and locks in all of that moisture. I also love pairing creams with heavy oils; my hair reacts wonderfully to this combination.<\/p>\n

Lastly, one thing that I would like to incorporate during the colder months is instead of sitting under a hooded dryer, I try steaming my hair. It\u2019s been said that steaming helps to penetrate the hair better while deep conditioning. I’m always looking for ways to add extra moisture to my curls.<\/p>\n
