Being a colored natural hasn’t always been easy. Struggling with my quest for healthy colored curls is what prompted my YouTube channel. To share tips to retain healthy growing hair while also being blonde. With many setback, I’ve been able to learn the proper way to maintain color and prevent any unnecessary damage and\/or continued breakage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things to keep in mind when considering color:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Current State of your Hair<\/strong>: The state of your hair will be a determining factor in whether color-treatment is a good choice for you in the beginning stages of your transition. If you are currently shifting from damaged hair, adding further tension through color treatment will not assist your goal of achieving healthier and full locks. The ammonia and other stripping properties in hair dyes, penetrate the hair cuticle, completely altering the integrity of the strand. Let\u2019s not mistake it- being a color-treated natural is completely possible, however, your foundation must be strong. It\u2019s best to get your hair out of the danger zone with a little TLC before applying chemicals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Over-processing\/Direct Heat:<\/strong> Retouching too often will ultimately lead to color damage. Three to six months was ideal for me. Also, if you apply direct heat often, stretching out your color application would be best to avoid any unwanted damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consult A Professional:<\/strong> When in doubt, seek out a professional colorist. Personally, I stand by the salon experience when it comes to color. You are working hard to see your hair to its full potential, so it\u2019s worth investing in a colorist you trust. The more knowledgeable I became with color, I then made the decision to start touching up my color at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main thing to keep in mind is the health of your hair should come first. Don’t be afraid to let your stylist know your concerns or preferences. Your healthy hair will make your color look it’s best, so if you need to wait, it’s worth it in the end. You got this!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
