New year, new hair they say. A lot of us might feel in a rut when it comes to our hair care regimen so we look at the new year as a great time to set new hair resolutions and goals. I strongly believe that the beginning of a new year is the perfect time to try something new and be adventurous with your hair. Here\u2019s how you can slay your hair this year: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 – Figure Out Your Hair Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start off the new year with your hair goals. Write down what you want to achieve with your hair this year (like any other goal) to make sure you keep yourself accountable. Are you looking for length? Or to retain more moisture because your hair tends to be on the dry side? Are you trying to be more adventurous with your hair and looking to cut or maybe color your hair? Or are you looking for more fullness and thickness in your hair? This is the best time to analyse your hair and think about what you want to achieve this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2 – Write Your Plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assess what you have and write down a plan. I know we all have gone through that product junkie phase so look under your cabinets, and go through all the products and tools you currently own. If you are someone who wants to retain moisture in your hair, make sure you have all your conditioners (like a Heal & Renew). Take inventory of what you have and what you need and also plan it out so it makes sense with your schedule. For example, if you know your schedule doesn\u2019t permit you to shampoo your hair weekly then don\u2019t write that down as one of your goals. Keep your goals attainable and realistic and create a routine based on your hair aspirations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing what you have time to do, keep up with and maintain, is important. Start with the foundation, i.e. washing your hair. We all should be able to cleanse and condition our hair at least once a week. That is key! When it comes to deep conditioning, make sure you do that on a schedule (weekly or at least every other week) and make it a priority. If you want to maintain growth, then try to add a hair growth oil to your routine (daily or every two days) to help stimulate your hair follicles and scalp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The point is to be realistic with what you can and cannot do, and know the products that you have and need to achieve those goals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3 – Set Due Dates <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set some due dates and check in points for yourself to see how your hair is coming along and if you need to make any changes. These can be quarterly. Also, keep in mind that as the seasons change, our hair might change as well. For example, in the Winter your hair might feel drier so you might want to add more moisture. In the Summer, you might not want to heat style your hair and can opt for protective hairstyles. Measure your goals, assess your hair and see what needs to be changed or improved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And most importantly, don\u2019t stress out about your hair. At the end of the day, it is just hair! Don\u2019t put too much pressure on yourself to look a specific way or to achieve certain things. Just enjoy the journey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
