When it comes to curly hair, our hair usually has a natural tendency for dryness, something a lot of us didn\u2019t experience or worry too much about when we were wearing our hair straight. Curly hair tends to be on the drier side because the natural oils that are produced by our scalp can’t travel as easily down our hair shaft like it can with straight hair. Due to this concept, it\u2019s important that you are always checking in with your hair to see what you can provide it with so it can stay hydrated and most importantly, moisturized. Being four years into my natural hair journey, I have learned so much about just how important it is to keep your hair moisturized. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the best tips that has helped me when it comes to fixing my dry hair is to create a nightly hair regimen. Having a regimen (day or night) for this is very important because it allows you the opportunity to check in with your hair and see if you need to moisturize it. Keep in mind that when you go too long without moisturizing your curls, you will eventually deal with a lot of dryness and this approach unfortunately will lead to excessive breakage and knots. On wash day you will see that your hair is challenging to manage, and you will deal with more breakage than normal and it\u2019s because your hair wasn\u2019t moisturized properly throughout the week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my night routine, I usually like to go in with Uncle Funky\u2019s Daughter Supercurl<\/a> Cr\u00e8me or their Good Hair<\/a> Conditioning Styling Cr\u00e8me. Both cr\u00e8mes are incredibly amazing and always hydrate and nourish my dry curls. I usually like to moisturize my hair at night before going to bed and then in the morning when I take my hair out, my curls look moisturized, they feel soft and its easier for me to manage my curls into the hairstyle that I am wanting to wear for that day. Taking this approach and keeping your hair hydrated on a regular basis will overall help to keep your strands healthy and strong, which in return will make it easier for your curls to retain moisture as long as you are consistent with this approach. It\u2019s also important to consider that keeping your hair moisturized will help with length retention which means less breakage and knots because you\u2019re keeping your strands moisturized on a consistent basis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another approach that can help your curls retain moisture is sealing in your moisture with an oil. Sealing your hair with an oil is the process in which you lock in the moisture that you just applied to your curls. This approach helps keep in the moisture lock and prevents your hair from drying out too quickly. After moisturizing my hair, I like to use Uncle Funky\u2019s Daughter Shining Star<\/a> Hair and Scalp Elixir. This oil is rich with natural oils of hemp, olive oil and jojoba oil helping you seal in all the moisture that you applied, while providing shine and promoting growth. I love to use this also to do my scalp massages to promote a healthy scalp and growth daily.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deep conditioning regularly helps our hair with retaining moisture better overtime. Deep conditioning helps replenish moisture back into our strands and gradually strengthen them. I like to deep condition my hair every time I wash my hair which is usually once a week. I love using the Heal and Renew<\/a> Intensive Deep Conditioner Intensive hair masque. This deep conditioner is one of my favorites because It always leaves my hair feeling so soft and moisturized and it’s easier for me to manage my hair when it comes to styling it for the week. This deep conditioner always leaves my hair feeling so soft and always replenishes the moisture back into my curls which in return helps reduce breakage and overtime I can see my hair retaining the moisture that it needs much better.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, our curly hair needs constant moisture in order to stay hydrated and for it to grow and thrive. The best way when it comes to retaining moisture in our curls is to ensure you are moisturizing your hair daily, sealing your hair with an oil and deep conditioning weekly. This will help with preventing breakage, hair loss and will help you with retaining length allowing your curls to grow to their full potential.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
