5 Ways To Avoid Shrinkage That Actually Work<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Although we can\u2019t avoid frizz or shrinkage altogether, there are ways to decrease it for all hair types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Blow cold air on your curls.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For the ladies that do not have as much shrinkage, blowing cold air on your curls after applying product can prevent frizz. During this process, avoid running your fingers through your hair to minimize friction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Style your hair stretched.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you tend to get a lot of shrinkage or would like your hair to be as long as possible, we recommend styling your hair stretched. A twist out on stretched hair using light cream<\/a> and oil<\/a> keeps a good percentage of your length while still showing off your beautiful curly texture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Blow out just the roots with warm air.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you are comfortable putting heat on your hair once a week, lightly stretching your hair with your hands and blowing warm air on just the roots can elongate your style without compromising the curl definition. We recommend using a heat protectant spray<\/a> to avoid any heat damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Braid your hair or put it in a pineapple at night.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Braid your hair in 5-6 sections at night and wrap it up in a headscarf to minimize friction. A pineapple puff or top bun should do the trick as well. If you do not sleep with a satin pillowcase, wearing a scarf or bonnet at night is essential to keeping your hair stretched and frizz-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Use a glossing or heat protectant serum.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Most gloss <\/a>or heat protectant serums<\/a> have silicone which is not soluble in water. These serums create a barrier on the hair strand, making it difficult for moisture to penetrate. Re-applying a small amount to your hair every other day can minimize exposure to condensation and reduce shrinkage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
