I\u2019ve learned a lot about my natural hair over the years; the good, the bad, and the ugly! It has been an amazing experience learning what to do and what not to do when it comes to natural hair care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today I will share with you what I\u2019ve learned over the years about the do’s and don\u2019ts of natural hair care to finally be my own hair goal.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do: Have Patience!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the main things I had to learn over the years is to be very patient throughout the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often, we find ourselves comparing our hair to someone else\u2019s without realizing it! Doing that will only make you want to rush the process; which can take away from your actual journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted my hair to grow overnight but I knew it wasn\u2019t possible so I had no choice but to wait and be patient. I realized that doing different styles and having fun with my hair made me forget about the growth and put more focus into caring for my hair; which eventually led to the growth that I was looking for.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do: Add Lots Of Moisture!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the beginning of my journey, I didn\u2019t think I had curls until my hair grew longer. It took me time to figure it out – but I finally realized it was moisture that I was lacking! Once I started to apply the right products, I started to see my curls! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Figuring out the right products for your hair type can help determine how defined your curls are going to be. I say I have 3C\/4A hair but I truly feel like I have a mixture of it all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like to use Curly Magic<\/a> and the Heal & Renew<\/a> hair masque by Uncle Funky\u2019s Daughter to define my curls while still maintaining moisture. Your curl pattern can change over time depending on how you care for your hair but I recommend that you always have a great moisturizing routine to achieve the best results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t: Neglect Your Natural Hair Care Routine In Protective Styles!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When trying to maintain healthy hair, protective styles are the way to go! Yes, protective styles can help with the overall growth and health of your hair… but oftentimes we can neglect our hair because it\u2019s in a protective style. Make sure that if you have a protective style with added hair – like box braids – that you still care for your natural hair underneath. I like to apply a moisturizer<\/a> to my hair, oil<\/a> on my scalp, and sometimes I spritz water on it as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t: Wear Tight Protective Styles!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Wearing protective styles and moisturizing your hair are great keys to a successful hair journey, but make sure that you don\u2019t wear very tight ponytails or any style that pulls your hair. This can cause your edges to thin out and we don\u2019t want that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope some of these tips help you throughout your hair journey! Don\u2019t give up, be patient and find a routine that works for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
