As an educator and mother of three beautiful children, I know all too well how challenging it is to achieve that perfect hairstyle with such a short amount of time with which to work. I simply do not have time in the morning to put together an intricate hairstyle, so I’ve come up with a few quick updos that all mothers can implement within their busy schedules and still look absolutely fabulous! So say goodbye to scarves and hats, because I have the style just for you!
The Ponytail Mohawk
The Ponytail Mohawk is a great way to stretch an older style. I created the Ponytail Mohawk that you see here from a days-old wash-n-go and then transformed it into a mohawk-type look.
Step 1: Simply pull your hair into a high ponytail toward the top of your head. You can add gel to your edges to give it a more polished look.
Step 2: With your hair in a ponytail, start shaping with your fingers. You can also secure some curls on the side of the ponytail to keep the shape of the hawk look.
Step 3: Give a little tug to the front curls to create some hang time, and voila!
The best part about this style is that once you perfect it and are comfortable with the motions, it takes about two minutes to achieve – a small investment for an incredibly gorgeous look!
The Swirl Bun
For the Swirl Bun, I decided to put my own unique twist on
the classic bun. You should start out with blown-out hair, or hair that has been stretched. Before you blow out your hair, apply a bit of Uncle Funky’s Daughter Good Hair Conditioning Styling Crème to moisturize your hair and protect your tresses from the heat. For this look, laid edges are important, so you should use your favorite gel or pomade to assist with that.
Step 1: Brush the hair up into a high ponytail.
Step 2: Take the hair that is hanging in the ponytail and divide it into small sections.
Step 3: Take one section and twist it into one big twist, and secure it to the opposite side with a bobby pin. Take another section and do the same thing, securing the twist to the opposite side, basically wrapping the hair around the hair tie.
Repeat this process until you’ve twisted all of your hair.
Again, this is a great way to jazz up a conventional look that can be worn for any occasion. Moms, we can even work out and still look great! This should not take more than five minutes to style.
The French Twist
The French Twist style is another versatile look that you can wear for several different occasions – work, date night, girl’s night out or church!
Step 1: Divide your hair down the center or the side in two parts.
Step 2: Twist one side and pin it behind the twist with a bobby pin.
Step 3: Twist the other side and connect each twist in the back and secure with a bobby pin.
Step 4: Tug and pull each twist for fullness and fluffiness.
That’s it! You would have never thought that an elegant style could be so simple!
Now that you have 3 simple styles that you can achieve in your own home, which style will you choose first? Remember, you CAN style your hair in five minutes or less and still look great!
