Hello everyone, it’s your girl Abby, @Abyxo on Instagram! Today I am going to share with you some tips and tricks on how to maintain healthy edges and combat dry ends. First things first, maintaining an overall healthy scalp starts with getting rid of bad habits as well as combatting dry ends. If you’re using a lot of heat on your hair, it will be more prone to breakage, fallout, and dry split ends. If you want healthy hair you have to take care of it properly in order to get the results you’re looking for, i.e. healthy, happy hair!

For starters, it’s not an overnight process, hair growth takes time. I know we’re all used to Amazon prime next day shipping but that’s not how hair works, it is something you have to make a habit of doing constantly. I created my own hair growth oil using some of my favorite natural hair oils like jojoba, Jamaican black castor oil, and aloe vera. I apply these oils all over my head and massage my whole scalp with it, while also focusing on my edges. I do this every other day and on my wash days. Since I work out everyday, I used to always tie my hair up in a high ponytail and I believe all of that tugging was causing some breakage along my hairline. Recently, I started to do loose pineapples, or low ponytails which don’t tug on my hair edges.
Now dry ends are the worst! I actually just got my hair trimmed back in June because I was trying to hold on to the length and not get it cut, but the ends were so horrible that I couldn’t put it off any longer! My advice is to definitely not put off getting your hair trimmed regularly because that’s what I tried to do and it just made me have to cut off more hair than I expected, as opposed to if I were to get it trimmed regularly. Sometimes dry ends don’t automatically mean to get a trim, it could be your hair is crying out for some moisture. We have to keep in mind that our ends are the oldest and sometimes when applying products we don’t tend to focus on that part as much as we should. I always make sure to condition my ends with extra love and do the same when I apply oils because our scalp produces natural oils that help moisturize our hair, but the ends are the last part to get that much needed moisture.

I also sleep on a satin pillowcase which helps with breakage, or I’ll wrap my hair at night with a satin scarf and put it up in a pineapple so that my hair doesn’t get frizzy. I hope these tips were helpful for you all and good luck on your happy healthy hair journey!
