The natural hair journey is NOT for the weak! I have been natural since 2010, and in the beginning, it was frustrating not knowing how to take care of my hair. I have learned so many things since then! So, let us get into – 5 ways to fix damaged natural hair before the fall!

1. Ditch the heat tools.
If you constantly find yourself using the blow drier, flat iron, hot comb, or hot curlers, this can take a toll on your hair. Too much heat can damage your hair and cause breakage.
Try to limit your heat usage and set your heating tools on low. Make sure you always use a heat protectant to minimize hair damage!
I still occasionally flat iron my hair, but I have minimized heat usage dramatically after learning how damaging it can be.
I get a professional silk press about 2-3 times a year – otherwise, I refrain from applying heat to my hair. My hair has gotten thicker and longer because I rarely apply heat!
2. Scalp massages.
Up until about 3-4 years ago, I had no clue that massaging your scalp increases the blood flow to your hair follicles, boosts the health of your scalp, and increases the strength and thickness of your hair.
I apply pressure in circular motions with my fingertips or I use my scalp massager – this can be done on dry hair, before shampooing, or while wet.
Add head massages to your daily routine – your scalp will appreciate it!

3. Deep condition every wash day.
To keep your hair hydrated – always use a deep conditioner or hair mask! Especially if you are applying heat!
Once upon a time, I would skip this step, which led to dry, brittle hair and breakage. Today, this step is a part of every wash day, and it leaves my hair feeling extremely soft and lightweight.
4. Read product ingredients.
With so many products available out there, hair care can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. Taking the time to read the product ingredients is so important.
A few key strengthening ingredients I look for in my products are aloe, coconut oil, argan oil, shea butter, vitamin A, and almond oil. I’ve found that all of these ingredients help repair and revive your curls!
Be very mindful of the ingredients you put in your hair!

5. Diet/ Exercise.
I maintain a healthy diet and exercise frequently. Be sure to take a moment to look at your diet and exercise lifestyle. Both play a huge role when it comes to having healthy hair.
Making sure you get the protein, vitamins, and nutrients your body needs is so important. It is important to include foods like lean meats, eggs, nuts, beans, and fish in your diet because our hair is made of protein!
Exercising helps get rid of stress hormones which negatively impact hair. It also promotes blood flow to the body, which helps with keeping your scalp healthy, and your hair strong!
Healthy hair is a sign of a healthy body!
I hope that these tips help you fix damaged natural hair before the Fall!
