As a natural, it’s easy to get stuck wearing the same hairstyle every day. None of us want to manipulate our natural hair too much due to the increased risk of breakage. However, a little versatility can make your healthy hair journey a lot more stylish! Here are 3 ways to change up your protective style for a new look mid-week.
1. Bantu Knots to Bantu Knot-Out
Bantu knots have made their way back up the trends again in 2021! It is so refreshing to see and definitely one of my favorite looks. All you need is a leave-in conditioner spray and a moisture cream to achieve this twisted look. They are also a great protective style for the colder months! Depending on how often you wash your hair, you can wear this style for the first half of the week and a Bantu knot out for the second! Use a cream or oil to unravel your Bantu knots, and you will be met with lots of volume and definition.
2. Box Braids to Faux Locs
If you are anything like me – you leave box braids in way longer than they should be! Instead of getting a touch-up, stop by your local beauty supply and grab some spring twist hair. You can use this hair to wrap around your box braids and turn them into faux locs! This will stretch your style for another 2-3 weeks! Make sure you use a leave-in conditioner spray to keep your hair moisturized – and give your scalp a cleanse before wrapping your braids!
3. Crown Braids to Braid Out
Crown braids are such a gorgeous protective style! If you have trouble achieving them, try two platts or any other braided hairstyle. I like to stretch my hair before doing crown braids for more volume and an overall neater look. The Uncle Funky’s Daughter Maximum Thermal Protection line is perfect for when I want to do a quick blow-out. I never put heat on my hair without a proper heat protectant spray! There are also heatless ways to stretch your hair.
You can wear your crown braids for the first half of the week and a braid out the second. Chunky braids create a braid out with a lot of body!
What I love most about having curly natural hair is there are so many different styles you can try out that are versatile!
I hope these hairstyle ideas inspire you to get creative and change up your look this fall!
