Let’s talk styling! We all have those days when we need a wash but don’t necessarily have the time for it. Here are 7 “Tee tips” on styling natural hair in between washes!

1. Plan Wash Days Ahead Of Time – For Less Stress
It helps to schedule your wash days based on how often you’d like to wash your hair and ensuring that it coincides with your plans/outings for the month. Firstly because washing your natural hair can be a tedious process. Secondly, you may want to plan your hairstyles accordingly!
2. Detangle Natural Hair Thoroughly In Each Stage of Styling
Ensuring that your hair is detangled properly every time you style, helps it last much longer. It also makes things look neat, even if you need a good wash! Don’t be afraid to spray water on your hair to soften it up and aid in the detangling process.
3. Allow Styles To Dry Completely
The drying process plays a huge role in how your style comes out. If you take your twist out or braid out down before it is completely dry you may jeopardize your hairstyle and increase frizz/tangles. My favorite Uncle Funky’s Daughter products to use for a frizz-free, moisture-rich style is Supercurl and Curly Magic. Both products are great for long-lasting styles!

4. Use Hair Masks Often For Curl Elasticity
If you are known to space out your wash days significantly, it is important to use a hair masque every time you wash your hair. This will increase curl elasticity, retain moisture and act as a great foundation for the styling process.
5. Do Not Close Your Eyes Without A Satin Cap
Without the use of a satin scarf, bonnet, or pillowcase, you are increasing the chances of breakage, dry strands, and an overall frizzy style. Make sure you only sleep with satin fabric touching your hair!

6. Trim Your Ends Regularly
If you don’t feel comfortable doing a full trim without your stylist, dust your ends ever so often to ensure that your hair is healthy and tangle-free. This will make styling in between washes much easier.
7. Utilize Accessories To Switch Up A Style
Accessories can play a useful role in switching up your style or just concealing the fact that you need a wash! Beads are a great way to accessorize, a headband, or even $6 decorative hairpins. There is also a cute trend of oversized satin ponytail holders that can be cute around a high puff or bun.
This is also a great way to show your personality, switch up your normal method of doing a style and add to your creative repertoire!
I hope that these tips help you style your natural hair in between washes! Uncle Funky’s Daughter products can truly be life-changing if used the right way! Follow me on Instagram @teerachelle_ for more DIY styles, tips, and reviews!
