Hi Funky Junkies, as you know by now, every year I like to look back and reflect on the past year and share with you the exciting plans we have for Uncle Funky’s Daughter for the upcoming year.
In 2021, we all went through personal hardships.
We’ve all had our trials and tribulations over the past few years with this pandemic. We all see stories on the news regarding the thousands of people who lost their loved ones due to COVID-19. If you lost someone this year or are dealing with a sick loved one, my heart and my prayers go out to you. I’ve been so blessed and grateful to have my family, employees, and teammates that I work with every day despite the COVID scares and outbreaks that we’ve had throughout the year.
I am also grateful that we have the vaccine to help combat this pandemic. My family and I are all vaccinated, and I’ve been “boosted” as well. I hope you were able to get your hands on the vaccine and I encourage you all to protect yourselves and your families… especially given the disparaging impact the virus has had in our brown communities.
On top of the pandemic, we’ve had tornadoes tear through cities like Mayfield, Kentucky, and wipe them out completely. My thoughts are with the people and communities who have been impacted by these disasters.
I know that we don’t typically discuss politics on the Chat Box, but I’m grateful for our change in leadership at a national level. I consider myself a centrist and am not a hard-core Biden fan, but I am a “stronger together” fan! I strongly believe that our country needs this time of healing, love, and grace. So I want to encourage everyone to be loving, even to people who may not be ready to accept it…or have the same political views that you do!
In 2022, we will be stronger, together!
I don’t typically do New Year’s resolutions, because I believe you can change your habits at any point — which is what I did this year with regards to my health! After seeing the progress my girlfriends made from working out on their Peloton bikes, I got my own, and I feel great!
So whether it is a bike at home or a daily walk, commit to yourself to be a better you! 2021 was the year of the self-care revolution…and it’s continuing into 2022! Don’t be afraid to be selfish with your time. When you take care of yourself first, you will be a better mom, a better wife, a better friend…a better YOU!
In 2022, I’m committing to being more present with my family. Oftentimes, I get very short-tempered with my kids because I have so many things going on in my head while they are calling my name. Starting now, I will be more present when I get home by turning my phone on “Do Not Disturb” and focusing on being in the moment with my family.
The one thing this pandemic taught us is that we don’t have everyone as long as we think we do, and things can change in an instant. So be present in the moment, wrap yourself around your loved ones and enjoy time spent with friends and family.
In 2021, UFD introduced a new line.
I want to start by saying that 2021 has been a great year for Uncle Funky’s Daughter! I am eternally grateful for the love and support we’ve had from our Funky Junkies across the world. Thanks to you, we are continuing to grow, invest in new product lines and expand our relationship with our national retail partners. Funky Junkies, you are the breath behind the brand!
One of the most exciting moments of 2021 was the launch of our first product line outside of our core products. Our new Maximum Thermal Protection line allows you to heat style your hair without the fear of damaging your curls!
Not only is this collection great to use before straightening, but you can also use it before you sit under the dryer for your rod set. You can even use it before running the hairdryer over a flat twist or braid out to add a bit more length! I tend to use this collection during the wintertime when there is less humidity outside.
I hope you love this new collection as much as I do and as always, I am open to hearing your thoughts and what you’d like to see from us next.
In 2022, UFD will continue to grow!
The launch of our Maximum Thermal Protection line was the first step towards the many new collections we plan on releasing in the future. In 2022, you can look forward to the launch of our scalp line as well as some new products for our core line.
We are also working hard to get more products of ours at your local retailers. In 2022, you can look forward to finding our travel kit in more CVS stores, additional products in Walgreens stores, and we will continue to be in every Target store with Curly Magic and The Ultimate Travel kit! Yay!
And for my Texan Funky Junkies… you will also now see us in more HEB stores. Not only are we in more doors, but we’ve introduced two products into HEB stores, our Maximum Thermal Protection Primer and Split End Serum!
Obviously, we can’t achieve any of this without you all! It’s when you go out and purchase our products at our local stores that HEB, Walgreens, CVS, Target, and Kroger realize there is a demand for us in the marketplace and they reward us with more stores!
