Spring is finally approaching! Thanks to the warmer weather, we can now put away our go-to styles and wear our curls out a bit more. Here are 4 ways to level up your hair care routine in preparation for Spring!
1. Start the season off with a fresh trim!
In order for your hairstyles to have more bounce and shine, you should start the season off with a fresh trim! Who passes up on bounce AND shine? You can typically tell when it’s time for a trim when you can no longer detangle with ease. When your hair needs to be trimmed, you may be more prone to tangles, and your hair can appear very dry, even after adding moisture.

2. Add more deep conditioning to your routine.
Deep conditioning should be an essential part of your hair care routine depending upon your hair porosity and personal hair care goals. If it’s not possible for you to deep condition your hair two times a week, I suggest deep conditioning at least once a week. This will add moisture back into your hair and allow you to wear it out more often in the Spring. I personally enjoy using heat to ensure that all strands absorb moisture! Peppermint, tea tree, lavender, and rosemary can help soothe your scalp to make this step relaxing as you wait.
3. Use lighter oils and lots of them.
Using lighter oils will help prevent your hair and scalp from drying out. Heavier oils tend to sweat, and we can all do without the mess. During the winter, we use thick oils like black castor oil, however, in the Spring, lighter oils like coconut and jojoba are better for your hair. They can be applied to the scalp directly or added as a sealant at the end of your hair care routine. Please remember that oils should be used in a sequence (usually last), as their job is to “lock” in moisture. If it’s used on already dry hair, you are just sealing in dryness. We don’t want that!

4. Protective style anyone?
Give your hair a break for 4-6 weeks! I know…I know…we begin to miss our curls after a week, maybe even two – but hold on sis! Mechanical damage is a thing and too much of anything can be a bad thing so put the comb and stylers down for a minute. This will allow your hair to flourish and bloom during the Spring. All you have to do is ensure that your scalp is oiled as often as possible!
We can’t always control everything, but we can surely try! As spring approaches, start preparing for hydration both within and out!
