Traditionally, fathers play a very important role in a kid’s life. They are known to attend father/daughter dances, teach their sons how to play sports, take their son to get his first haircut, walk their daughter down the aisle, etc. In today’s society, they are picking up even more responsibilities! This Father’s Day we want to celebrate the dads who are involved in their kids’ hair care routine. We also want to encourage other dads to join the movement! Here are a few beginner-friendly tips for dads styling their curly kids’ hair!

Tip 1: KEEP IT SIMPLE!
The first tip is to keep it simple! Try quick and easy styles such as buns, puffs, or ponytails. With these styles, you only need a brush or comb, a moisturizing product, and a hair scrunchy. Once you master these styles, you can start to improvise and enhance the updo by adding braids, hair jewelry, and twists to the mix. The key is to keep the product steps simple by using a combo that is great for moisture and holding the style. I recommend pairing Supercurl with Curly Magic from Uncle Funky’s Daughter.
Don’t be afraid to use tools that you are already familiar with. For example, most men have a hair care routine that relies heavily on a bristle brush and a hair scarf/durag. You can use these same tools on your curly kid! A bonnet will be easier for a young girl to wear to bed, and you will need a wide-tooth comb to detangle before using the bristle brush to smooth it.

Tip 2: GET INSPIRATION
After the viral “girl dad” trend that happened a few years ago, many dads have video tutorials you can watch online about how they care for their children’s hair. There is an abundance of tutorials on YouTube and Tik Tok that are quick and easy to follow. I strongly recommend checking out Pinterest and creating your own board so that you can save hairstyles for inspiration later. Not only are these dads creating tutorials but there are also many women who are giving child hair care advice. The information is everywhere!
Final Tip: IT’S THE TIME THAT COUNTS
Remember that it’s the quality time spent with your child that truly counts! Don’t worry about having the perfect results at first. With practice, you will get better results. The real win is the joy and confidence your child will have from their father taking the time to style their hair. Creating bonds with your kids in as many ways as you can matters!
Dads, we appreciate you and I hope that these tips inspire you to get involved with your curly kids’ hair styling process.
Happy Father’s Day!
xoxo
