Maintaining long, thick, curly hair can be very time-consuming. There are often times when I don’t feel like washing my hair because I know the process will be tedious. However, I was able to find a simple routine that works for me. Here are my top hair care tips for thick, curly hair!
1. Use a moisturizing cleanser & conditioner!
Thanks to the Uncle Funky’s Daughter products that I use, my wash days last the whole week. My routine includes shampooing bi-weekly, deep conditioning weekly, and styling my hair once a week. For shampoo, I use Rich & Funky which is a sulfate-free, foamy cleanser that delivers loads of moisture and makes detangling easy. I follow up with Richee Rich, which is a hydrating conditioner. This is by far one of my favorite products because I’m always at the gym and this product aids with nurturing dry, thirsty curls from all of the sweat. The avocado oil in this product is ideal for dry, dehydrated hair, and it can even help relieve dryness and itching.
2. Follow up with the right stylers.
For stylers, I start with the Good Hair leave-in conditioner! I apply this throughout the week in the “kitchen area” because it helps soften the back of my hair where I get the most tangles. After applying the product I wrap my hair with a satin scarf to help prevent tangling while I sleep. Then I use their Supercurl Miracle Moisture Cream – this creamy product can stretch out and detangle very kinky/tight textures and define medium to loose curly textures.
Curly magic is another product that makes styling so much easier! Curly Magic is a gel that defines my curls, tames frizz, and adds moisture to my curls without the nasty crunch and flakes. One of my favorite things about this product is that it is aloe-based, and for those that don’t know here are the benefits of aloe vera:
- Controls greasy hair
- Helps with itchy scalp
- Protects your hair and skin from UV damage
- Aids in hair growth
4. Seal with oil.
Last but not least, Shining Star is my holy grail! I have an obsession with oils and the benefits that come along with them, so Shining Star is my top pick because it is infused with a lot of beneficial oils that aid in promoting hair growth, and moisture without weighing your hair down. I usually apply this every other day to help promote hair growth.
Having thick, long curly hair can be intimidating but with the help of the above products, I rarely have to retouch my hair throughout the week and my curls are able to last much longer. I hope that my hair care routine helps you as well!
