As much as we love our natural hair, it can be a little overwhelming! Especially on those days when you have so much to do and so little time. Today, I’m going to share 3 ways to simplify your natural hair care routine so you are less overwhelmed when it’s time to style.

1. Pick a go-to hairstyle!
First, look for a go-to, versatile hairstyle that takes the pressure away from having to do different styles for different events. I’ve noticed that this is where a lot of people tend to struggle. You might be going to work in the daytime and have a party or fancy dinner to attend at night. Transition hairstyles definitely help here! I usually leave my hair in twists during the week and then do a cute twist-out updo with bangs if I want to go out on the weekends.

2. Always work in sections & stick to what you know.
Next, working in sections makes doing your hair easier, especially if your hair is on the longer and/or thicker side. I wash, deep condition, and style my hair in sections. This has helped me tremendously, I can easily keep track of everything I’m doing and estimate how long the process will take and how many breaks I can take in between.
You will also benefit from sticking to products and ingredients you are familiar with. There’s nothing wrong with trying new things here and there, but don’t stray too far from the basics. I’ve been using Uncle Funky’s Daughter for years because the products always guarantee adequate moisture and softness for my hair. Knowing that the products I’m using will work for my hair takes the stress away when styling.

3. Keep your hair stretched.
Last but not least, try to keep your hair in stretched styles, especially if your natural hair is on the tighter side. Personally, twists or African threading serve as a stretched style for me but with the right products and technique, you can also stretch your hair with heat. You can do a light blowout and leave your hair in a nice updo. Some people even prefer to straighten their hair from time to time on low heat because it’s easier for them to work with their hair in that state.
If you’re going the heat route, make sure you’re using products that protect your hair and make heat styling safe. I highly recommend the Maximum Thermal Protection line by Uncle Funky’s Daughter. The products contain silk protein, bamboo, and quinoa which strengthen your strands and prevent heat damage. It’s a complete line that includes a cleanser and deep conditioner to prep your hair before heat application, a heat protectant primer spray, a split end serum to protect your ends, and a shine booster to give your hair a nice healthy shine. You can get these products on the Uncle Funky’s Daughter website.
In conclusion, remember that it’s just hair at the end of the day. Try not to overthink or complicate your routine. The goal is a simple routine with products you can trust!
