Protective Style Tip: 6 Easy Steps to Create Finger Coils on Your Wig

Haute Kinky Hair and Uncle Funky’s Daughter have partnered up to show you how their products not only work great on your natural hair but with protective styles as well.

I was sent four products from their hair care line: Curly Magic Curl Stimulator, Midnite Train Leave-in Conditioner, Supercurl Miracle Moisture Creme, and Defunk Hair Refresher Tonic. Using two of the four products, Curly Magic and Midnite Train, I created finger coils on my Haute Kinks wig. Here’s a how to guide so that you can create the same look!
Step 1:
Cleanse the wig using a cleansing shampoo such as Squeaky Deep Cleansing Shampoo. The cleansing shampoo will help remove any product build-up and odors from the previous style. Condition the wig using Richee Rich Moisturizing Conditioner to add moisture back into the wig. Haute Kinky Hair collections are more manageable when the hair is moisturized. After rinsing out the Richee Rich conditioner, spray a light layer of Midnite Train Leave-in Conditioner for added moisture.
Step 2:
Part the wig unit hair into four sections — two in the front and two in the back — using hair clips to keep each section separate. Starting with one section (you can choose to start where ever you’d like), make smaller sections and apply the Curly Magic Curl Stimulator. Use the raking method to apply the product evenly through the strands.
Step 3:
Using two fingers, wrap the hair around your fingers and twirl (do this continually until you reach the ends). Repeat this step until you’ve made a tight coil then move on to the next section.
Step 4:
Allow the wig to dry over night or place the wig in a portable hair dryer for faster drying time.
Step 5:
Separate the coils starting at the root gently gliding your hands to the ends. One coil can be separated into smaller twists (this depends on how big you want the hair to look). The more you separate the more volume you will achieve. Use a light oil such as Shining Star to help separate the coils as this will add so shine and moisture.
Step 6:
Rock your wig! After a few days you will want to revive your coils by using Thirsty Curls Leave-in Curl Revitalizer. The revitalizer revives your coils without having to wash the wig. Simply spray a thin layer on each section and use your hand to scrunch the coils to bring them back to life. Repeat this step until you’ve reached your desired look.
Curly Magic has easily become my favorite product. After using it for my finger coils, Curly Magic kept each coil firm, defined, and moisturized. After a week my coils still looked fresh. Head over to YouTube (Creolelioness) to check my video and see how I achieved my fingercoils using Uncle Funky’s Daughter products on my Haute Kinky Hair wig.
Have you tried Curly Magic? What is your favorite Uncle Funky’s daughter product?
