Hi Funky Junkies! This month, I wanted to touch on something out of the ordinary here on Renee’s Corner, where I typically chat about hair, work-life balance and the scoop here at Uncle Funky’s Daughter. I value you all as a special part of what helps UFD continue to grow as a company, and I know, as awesome as you are, that some of you have ideas for starting your own! Here are my Top 3 Tips to help get you started on your path to success!
Tip # 1: Focus, focus focus!
Ideas can be endless, and if you’re one of those people who cycle through them often, you know that managing and executing them can be quite a task! My recommendation is to hone in on one idea at a time and work through it from “root to tip.” You may be a Jack of All Trades, but I can assure you it is most rewarding when you give 100% to one of those trades by developing it and becoming the best.
Tip # 2: Build a brand identity!

Brand identity is critical. It establishes what your company is in the eyes of the possible consumer and pushes your values and offerings out into the world. If you’re not sure what it is, brand identity is the message the consumers receives from the product. It essentially connects product recognition to them. This means your logo, fonts used, color scheme (and more!) have to be set and executed for your brand to become and stay recognizable!
Tip # 3: Know your customer.
One of the most wonderful parts of being the President of Uncle Funky’s Daughter is being a part of its community. Because I am a part of it, I know who the consumer is and who she is not. This is exceedingly helpful in marketing a product line that’s a part of an array of product lines. There will always be a competitor, but none that knows how to appeal to your customer better than you, once you gain that understanding. Brand identity comes back into play here, so remember to stay on your toes. Nothing can hold you back!

Running a business is hard, but rewarding, work! It is a pleasure to produce products that are seriously helping people around the world — I’d say that’s the best part! Thank you for all of your business, support and kind words you’ve given along the way; it truly helps us to keep going and giving you what your curly hair needs!
xoxo,
Renee
