Cringe-Worthy Natural Hair Trends on the Internet… With Solutions

The internet is saturated with the do’s and don’t of natural hair and although it can be helpful, it can also pose a threat. There are definitely tons of cringe-worthy natural hair trends but a few stand out much more than others. The thing is, they can be easily corrected. Let’s get into these trends and what you can do alternatively!

Healthy hair allows no short cuts… Even when protective styling!

I have heard this over and over again… Naturals don’t need to shampoo. Wrong! Products, dirt and dust are easily trapped on our strands and scalp due to the curlier or kinkier textures of our hair. Shampoo is the only thing that can remove impurities and allow moisture to penetrate them. Think about the concept of bathing or showering and applying lotion or moisturizer afterwards and not before. The lotion can absorb into the skin and provide it moisture, but only if it’s clean. Hair works the same way. We need shampoo!

Detangling hair can be tricky, especially with tightly coiled hair. Some naturals will attempt to detangle from the roots to tips which is completely incorrect. Detangling incorrectly will immediately damage the stands of the hair permanently. It’s the easiest way to pop or break hair strands, causing unevenness, excessive shedding and thinning. The best way to detangle natural hair is to start from the ends in small sections and slowly detangle upwards. If you run into small knots, separate them and gently pull the knots apart. You can also use the famous finger detangling method.

Uncle Funky’s Daughter has a solution to help your curly hair! Try out the line with this Travel Kit!

The one trend that boils my blood the most is cutting your OWN hair in it’s curly state. It’s absolutely impossible to see every area of your head which makes trimming a challenge. It’s also difficult because the texture of our hair can tend to hide things easily. This makes it simple to damage the hair and the only way to bounce back from a bad cut is to grow it back out.  I suggest getting a professional stylist to blow your hair out and allow you to feel the texture difference and assess areas that might be under more stress that others. This way you can make the necessary changes to have healthier hair. The combination of both sets of eyes can be beneficial for the overall health of your hair and can help you get the best trim or cut for your lifestyle and natural hair goals.

I would love to hear what natural hair trends make you cringe in the comments below. Uncle Funky’s Daughter is sold at your local Walmart and the Ultimate Kinky & Curly girls kit is a great way to experience crazy moisture. Although the month of October is scary, natural hair definitely doesn’t have to be!

Cutting hair in a stretched hair state is also not always ideal for most . I think we have to start with a dry cut especially for shape. Maybe finish with a wet or stretch cut to get any other broken strands . But my personal experience with cutting my hair in a stretch state has never worked because of the multiple textures on my head

Am living in Jamaica. I remember visiting and shopping at Clore. Very good products.

How do I go about purchasing and shipping for resale in Jamaica.

Can you give me the link or direction
