Across the U.S., there are cold fronts sprouting and spreading everywhere! It’s time to get in formation for winter weather, and get our curls pruned and prepared for the season that lies ahead! As you know, your hair requires optimal care during this time of year, as the air is drier and we’re turning up the heat, so here are three tips to start implementing into your routine to cater to your curls!
- Protect your hair from friction whenever you can! It’s not unpopular to hear about satin pillowcases but it’s really time to put those into play along with a few other things! In addition, try these things: keeping your hair off your collar if possible, purchase satin lined winter hats, and even lined sleepwear coverings like bonnets or scarves. The less friction your hair experiences, the less likely it is to display increased shedding or split ends, and more likely it is to retain moisture. Very important!

Taking care of your curls during the winter months can be a little extra work, but is easier with the right products! - Maintenance is key right now! Make sure you’re getting a trim (Set your appointment, today Funky Junky!), performing deep conditioning and/or hot oil treatments, and being extra careful during your detangling process. It’s also helpful if you keep tools in your bag when you’re on the go to detangle during the day, especially when wearing hats and scarves. Another helpful tip is to co-wash a bit more often and reduce the amount of times you shampoo, just to add a bit more moisture! Our Bye-Bye Buildup Cleansing Conditioner is a great alternative for your usual cleanser, and is power-packed with with avocado oil, organic aloe vera and coconut oil to gently cleanse, tame frizz and nourish curls.

Give your curls what they’ve been missing, and don’t forget to incorporate a leave-in conditioner! - This one may be a bit difficult if wash & go styles are your favorite, but it’s time to hang them up and try alternatives that prevent you from leaving home with wet hair! Some of these include but aren’t limited to protective styles (highly recommend!), twist outs, braid outs and updos! As previously mentioned, you should implement the least amount of friction to your hair in your routine, so low manipulation is also a plus when styling. Specifically, halo or side braids, braided buns (this one has so many variations for you to try) work as great alternatives that last!
