Who wants dry brittle hair?! Ummm, I don’t know about you, but I’ll pass! The cold weather is almost here ladies, and although sometimes I enjoy the cooler breeze (not too cold), my hair does not agree with the temperature dropping.
As soon as the weather starts getting colder my hair tends to get very dry and feels like straw (very rough). When I started my hair journey I was clueless and couldn’t figure out why my hair felt brittle and looked so unhealthy.
The cold weather can be harsh on natural hair, that’s when I realized during the colder months my hair needs some extra TLC. After my many struggles and attempts trying to rescue my brittle dry hair, I finally was able to figure out what worked for me and I want to share it with you beauties!

Let’s talk about ways we can prevent dry, brittle hair! I’ve included some tips below that will help you maintain healthy hair this cold season.
- MOISTURIZING CLEANSER
We know some hair cleansers can strip your hair from its natural oils leaving your hair extremely dry and stiff. Cleansing your hair with a moisturizing shampoo will leave your hair more manageable and hydrated. I love using Uncle Funky’s Daughter Rich and Funky Moisturizing Cleanser. With it being a sulfate-free cleanser, it provides hydration for my hair which gives it slip making it easier for me to detangle (and overall making my hair more manageable). Plus it smells sooooo good!

- DEEP CONDITION
Having a good Fall hair regimen will prevent dry hair and will keep your hair healthy. For me, the most important thing to do is DEEP CONDITION. Why deep condition?! It improves your hair’s health, repairs damaged hair, reduces split ends all while giving you the moisture it needs. I love using Heal and Renew from Uncle Funky’s Daughter. With peppermint oil, avocado oil, aloe vera juice and baobab oil, this deep conditioner will definitely restore the moisture this cold weather tries to take away from us!
I deep condition my hair weekly (covering with a plastic cap) and leave it in for 30 minutes, then I rinse it out with cool water. The cold water will help lock in all that moisture. For an extra boost of moisture try adding an oil to your deep conditioner like Shining Star, this hair and scalp elixir will provide an added layer of protection from the harsh weather.

- STYLING
With the temperatures dropping, it is very important to use the right styling products. What works for your hair in the summer may not work for you in the colder months. I tend to switch my styling products, once the weather starts to get colder, and the SuperCurl Miracle Moisture Creme from Uncle Funky’s Daughter is AMAZING, a creamy styler that will keep your strands moisturized, soft and hydrated.
Protective styling can also help prevent dry brittle hair in the colder months. Two strand twists is my go to protective style. If you’ve never tried any products from Uncle Funky’s Daughter, the Ultimate Kinky & Curly Kit is a great option for you.

I hope these tips were helpful so you can prevent hair damage and prepare your hair for these colder months (fast) approaching.
