While you are busy living your best life this summer, the last thing you want to worry about is unintentional frizzy hair! To keep the looks coming while still keeping your curl definition, here are a few tips to consider when styling your hair this summer.
It’s Hot During The Summer!
There are two things that you need to be worried about: the summer heat and humidity.
The sun produces heat which we know is damaging to our hair. I suggest protecting your hair by mixing a little heat protectant into your hair oil or leave-in conditioner.

Wear Hairstyles Away From the Face.
Also, consider wearing hairstyles away from the face and neck so you can beat the heat! No one wants a sweaty frizzy twist-out – some hairstyle suggestions are updos, slick back ponytails, buns, and protective hairstyles.
Humidity Equals Frizz!
When you style your hair, consider the humidity – especially if you live in the South! For example, if you know that you are attending an outdoor event or will be outside for an extended period, ask yourself will this hairstyle be able to withstand the humidity? Also, consider styling your hair with a gel for a stronger hold. Although curling creams are great for definition, they do not usually hold the hair as long as a gel would.
Another tip to consider is products with glycerin. Glycerin is known to absorb moisture out of the air. Using products with glycerin will lead to a frizz fest! Great products to use are edge controls, spray-on leave-in conditioners, and gels without glycerin.

Start Your Summer With A Trim.
One of my favorite things to do at the start of summer is a good trim. I do this because I know I’ll be switching through different protective styles while vacationing and just being busy in general. I’m preparing my hair for all the growth that’s going to take place. Trimming your dead ends is also important not just for the health of your hair but also for looks.
Protective Styling Is Your Friend!
A naturalista on the go should consider protective styling. It’ll cut the time it takes for you to get ready in half. Especially on vacation when so many exciting things are happening, you want to be camera-ready and not struggling to get your hair together due to the possible change of climate.

Refresh, Refresh, Refresh
Also, in the summer heat or while working out, protective styles such as long braids, locs, and twists can pick up our body odor. Be sure to refresh your protective styles with a hair tonic or dry shampoo.
These tips should help your hair live her best life too this summer! It’s all a learning process, so failed hairstyles are inevitable, but at least we can try to prevent them from happening by considering a few things before we step out the door.
