As you may have noticed from our social media and our previous Chatbox episodes, we have been talking about how to spice it up all month long. We’ve already discussed how you can spice up your hair but I would like to talk about ways to spice up your life! Check out these helpful tips below…
- Get out of the COVID rut!
COVID has created a new normal for many of us. Our daily routine has shifted from going out on the town to spending more time at home. It is so easy to get in a funk of exhaustion and to feel very limited.
When COVID first hit last spring, our kids participated in remote learning which was a struggle for me! To get through it, we did COVID-friendly activities that were socially distanced such as softball, horseback riding, and tennis. But — like everyone else — we were unable to do many of the things we were doing previously. There were no more kids’ birthday parties, dinner parties, or social gatherings, which created an entirely different experience for us.
We are still unable to do some of these things, but spicing it up is about embracing change. So, instead of indoor birthday or dinner parties, we are celebrating outdoors (like a paint party in the park) with a smaller group of friends. So, rethink how your social gatherings are happening…especially as COVID seems to be ramping up again and impacting even us vaccinated folks.

- Changing up your outfit!
Embracing change isn’t just in what you do, but how you look doing it! Even if you are simply switching up your lipstick or eyeshadow, you have to figure out what breaking out of the norm looks like for you!
If you aren’t ready to switch up your look drastically, there are so many simple things you can do to change things up. For example, my go-to outfit is either jeans and an Uncle Funky’s Tee or Lululemon pants and an Uncle Funky’s Tee. I’m usually pretty low-key, but when I want to spice things up I go to the other side of my closet and pick an outfit from the clothes I don’t wear often. Maybe it’s that cute skirt I bought on sale a while ago and never wore, or that nice sundress I used to wear. For some of you it may be a sexy pair of shorts…whatever adds a little “flava” for you…rock it!
Trust me…you’ll feel better when you do!
- Spice up your activities!
Look at what you are doing every day, and if you notice that you are doing the same thing, switch it up and try something different! There are a bit more COVID-friendly things to do now such as checking out a community garden, going to a museum, or the zoo! You can even go to the park and have a picnic, or take a nice bike ride along the trail. Just get outside and enjoy this summer weather!
One of the things that we did was a family trip to South Africa for two weeks. The trip was amazing! We had plans to go paragliding during this trip and my husband (Milton) was not a fan! Although we were unable to go, the instructor showed Milton a video of what paragliding looks like and he realized it wasn’t as dangerous as he imagined. He went from being completely against going to being bummed that we weren’t able to go.
So, whatever you choose to do that will spice things up — big or small — make sure that you stay open-minded and create great memories!

- Spice up your relationship!
As you all know, I’ve been with my husband for 15 years, and when you are married you have to spice up your relationship here and there! Put on your makeup, a cute outfit, and go out with your spouse, partner, or significant other. If you’d much rather stay in the house, spice it up with a nice dinner at home! You and your partner can get dressed up, cook a nice 4-course meal and have a candlelight dinner at home. It’s all about doing something different that will keep things fun and fresh this summer!
Or maybe you take a nice dip in the pool together…you know the one you have (or have access to) but never use! Go for a walk or run together. Take a Peloton class together. Remember all the things you look at and say “we should do that”…pick ONE and DO IT!
You won’t regret it…and neither will your partner. 🙂
I hope that some of this inspired you to figure out a way to add excitement into your life, and a smile on your face! When you are truly happy and excited about life it affects everything and everyone around you.
Have an amazing summer and we will talk again soon!
xoxo
