I’m so excited to bring in the new year and talk about why you should keep your cabinets stocked with heat protection products all 2023. I like to think of it as an SPF for your hair. Can you think of a time in your life when you didn’t use a heat protectant? I clearly remember the condition my hair was in and it wasn’t pretty. I suffered from very dry, brittle hair that resulted in major breakage. Adding a heat protectant to your hair creates a barrier between your natural hair and the styling tool you are using, making it a must-have in your hair care routine.
Must-have heat-protectant products.
I personally love the Maximum Thermal Protection line by Uncle Funky’s Daughter. This line has everything you need to protect your hair from heat. Ingredients in the MTP line such as silk, quinoa, and bamboo, strengthen and hydrate tresses creating a silky, smooth finish after applying heat. Not only do these products create a layer of heat protection, but they also eliminate frizz. So even if you don’t apply hot tools to your hair it’s a great product to add to your hair care routine to lock in moisture and seal the cuticle. A simple hair care routine on wash day.
As a hairstylist, my number one advice to my clients is to add thermal protection to their locks anytime they apply heat (this includes the diffuser). Below is my personal hair care routine that keeps my hair healthy and thriving. This is a routine that I use year-round, regardless of the season. When you know what works you want to share it with the world!
Step 1: Start with the Purifying Cleanser (rinse and repeat 2x) especially if you don’t wash your hair every day. This shampoo will get rid of any product buildup.
Step 2: Work in the Deep Conditioner from mid-shaft to end and detangle your hair with a wide tooth comb or brush.
Step 3: Gently spray the Primer and use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to work the product into your hair.
Step 4: Add a few drops of the 3-in-1 Shine Booster to the palm of your hands. Warm it up by rubbing it in a circular motion and gently apply it to your hair in sections. Always stay away from your roots when applying this product as it may make your hair oily.
Step 5: Apply a nickel size drop of the Split-End Serum to your ends (it smells like a beach vacation) and diffuse!
