Having curly hair can be overwhelming, so I make sure to keep my routine simple and consistent. Every season my routine changes slightly based on the weather and what my hair needs at the time. With that being said, as we transition into Spring, there are a few things I will adjust in my routine to keep my color-treated curls healthy. Here are 5 ways to level up your haircare routine for the Spring.
1. Style your hair while it’s soaking wet.
In the Spring I tend to apply styling products to my curls when they are soaking wet. This keeps my hair hydrated and my curls defined. My favorite product combo for a wash-and-go is Curly Magic and Supercurl by Uncle Funky’s Daughter. I highly recommend this combo, as it gives me the right amount of hydration and good hold as the weather begins to warm up.
2. Wash your hair more often.
Due to the weather adjustment, it may be a good idea to wash your hair more often. For example, I tend to wash my hair twice a week during the spring compared to just once a week in the winter. Since I’m washing my hair more often, I tend to gravitate toward sulfate-free cleansers that won’t strip my hair or make it super dry! My go-to cleanser is the Rich & Funky moisturizing cleanser from Uncle Funky’s Daughter. This cleanser is sulfate free and color-safe.
3. Deep condition every wash day.
Deep conditioning your hair is very important throughout all seasons. My hairstyles don’t come out as good if I skip this step. I typically use Richee Rich on wash day after I shampoo, which leaves my hair so soft and moisturized. I also use the Heal & Renew Intensive Hair Masque once a week. This hair masque strengthens and moisturizes my strands and since my hair is color treated, I need all of the moisture I can get.
4. Use a serum or oil for your ends.
I recently started using the Split End Serum in the Maximum Thermal Protection collection as a first step prior to styling. This helps seal and tame any split ends and provides my hair with lots of shine and elasticity. Caring for your ends is key to preventing breakage and it also improved my wash-and-go results!
5. Protect your curls at night.
My last tip is to protect your curls at night when sleeping. You can use a silk hair scarf or pillowcase. It saves you time when refreshing your curls in the morning and makes your wash-and-go last longer. I hope that you can incorporate some of my tips to level up your hair care routine!
