With the hustle and bustle of everyday life, prioritizing your self-care is extremely important. Here are 7 ways to practice self-care every day.
1. Nightly scalp massages.
YES…. hair care is self-care! Giving your hair some much-needed TLC is very therapeutic, and plays a huge role in our self-esteem, confidence, and femininity. Remove daily stress by giving yourself a scalp massage. Not only is this beneficial for hair growth but it feels so relaxing! I typically light a candle, put a movie on, and give myself a much-needed scalp massage. The best part is you can do this anywhere because the only tool that you need is your fingers!
2. Cleanse your hair regularly.
This may not be a daily thing but cleansing your hair is definitely a form of self-care. I tend to use Squeaky by Uncle Funky’s Daughter on wash day to cleanse my hair and scalp. The herbal blend of kelp and willow bark gives my scalp a tingling effect, leaving my scalp feeling so refreshed.
3. Hydrate your body.
Drinking water is very important not only for your health but your hair! Did you know that roughly 60% of our body is water? Water hydrates your skin AND hair from the inside OUT! Dehydrated hair will result in brittle, dry hair and even hair loss. Just like you water plants, water your body!
4. Daily meditation.
As we know high-stress levels can lead to a number of health issues. Meditation can lower physical stress levels and increase positive moods. You can meditate anywhere, whether it’s in the shower, while you deep condition, first thing in the morning, or right before bed. I love to incorporate my weekly hair masque routine with my meditation. After I apply my absolute favorite hair masque Heal & Renew, I sit and meditate while allowing my hair to absorb the conditioner.
5. Pamper yourself regularly.
Pampering yourself can be whatever you want it to be. From sleeping in, taking a long bubble bath, getting your hair done, getting a pedicure, buying yourself flowers, the list goes on! Don’t feel guilty when you pamper yourself, remember you have to care for yourself first before you can care for others. It’s so worth it and we all deserve it!
6. Spend time enjoying nature.
Nature has so much to offer. It’s beautiful to look at, the fresh breeze and the sun shining on you is amazing. Spending time in nature is good for your physical/mental health and it reduces stress levels.
7. Get some rest & recharge.
Rest is more than just sleeping. Although getting an adequate amount of sleep is absolutely essential, rest can be simply taking a break and doing nothing. Unplug from social media and read a book, write yourself a letter, or spend time with a loved one. It’s ok to do NOTHING to replenish your well-being. It’s important to listen to your body and pay attention to your needs. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is light a candle, unplug and cater to yourself.
I hope that you incorporate these small practices into your self-care routine!
