In order for your hair to be at its optimal level of health, you must prioritize moisture. I’ve been natural for almost 10 years (wow time has been flying by!) and I’ve learned so many haircare do’s and don’ts. I’ve used these lessons to help not only myself but many other naturals! Today, I will share 3 tips for long-lasting moisturized natural hair. But before I get started, I want you to understand that it takes time to understand your hair, so don’t give up!
1. Prioritize moisture on wash day.
For starters, I believe the state you want your hair to be in starts with wash day. Create a wash day routine, use moisturizing products, and always deep condition! Deep conditioning every wash day is PARAMOUNT for me because of the many benefits during and after. To help amplify the deep conditioner, I recommend putting a plastic cap over your hair for 10 minutes. You will immediately feel how soft and defined your curls are. I absolutely LOVE the Heal & Renew Intensive Hair Masque by Uncle Funky’s Daughter! It’s very moisturizing and strengthens my strands due to the protein.
2. Invest in a good leave-in conditioner.
Secondly, using a leave-in conditioner after wash day helps add nourishing benefits to your hair and will allow for your tresses to remain conditioned. I can’t even begin to explain how wonderful my hair feels once I work a leave-in conditioner through the length of my hair. I love, love, love, Thirsty Curls by Uncle Funky’s Daughter! I use this curl revitalizer for a boost of hydration and to prevent frizz.
3. Use a moisturizing styler.
Lastly, I recommend using a moisturizing styler (it’s a plus if it has hold). I personally use Curly Magic by Uncle Funky’s Daughter to help elongate my curls and add moisture simultaneously. I’ve achieved so many cute styles on my and my daughter’s hair with Curly Magic. Some of my best twist-outs are because of this custard, and I’ve gotten beautiful, voluminous wash-and-go’s.
