Looking and feeling your best requires a consistent conscious effort. It’s a vibe; an energy that takes constant consistent practice. For me, developing my hair and beard regime, I laughably encountered a whole lotta errors during my trials. I legit thought that if I get a haircut and beard trim every week I would be okay…. Not the case at all.
Luckily for all my fellas, I’ve got you covered. Here are a few quick tips I’ve learned on my hair and beard journey. Hopefully you can avoid the pitfalls I encountered and look sharp!

Tip #1: Shampoo Less Frequently
Shampooing everyday is no longer the standard in the hair community. Across the country, barbers and stylists have gradually embraced the anti-shampoo movement, opting to not shampoo as often, instead using water conditioner (often called co-washing). I recommend using Uncle Funky’s Bye-Bye Build Up Cleansing Conditioner. It’s the perfect balance between wash’s and it helps to maintain your hair’s natural moisture.
TIP #2: Practice Patience
If you’re starting from scratch, mentally prepare yourself for the journey of hair and beard self-actualization. It’s going to take some time. Hair follicles need to be stimulated and your growth pattern needs to take shape. In the early stages, you may notice particular areas of your beard that appearance patchy, or locations that grow in thicker than others. For me, in my initial growth stages for my beard, I learned that shaving with an actual razor help to promote my hair growth especially in my patchy spots.

TIP #3: Keep Your Hair and Beard Moisturized
Caring for our specific hair texture requires a little more effort. Your hair naturally needs more oil, and the oil glands on your face will not generate enough moisture for both your skin AND your beard. I prefer to use Uncle Funky’s Midnite Train Leave-In Conditioner at the start and end of my day.
TIP #4: Quality Tools for Daily Maintenance
In addition to using all of Uncle Funky’ products for your hair and beard, you should also use quality products to groom and style your hair & beard. The right comb or brush can make a big difference in your beard growth. When choosing a comb for your beard make sure it’s smooth so that it won’t pull or tug at your hair. Not only does that hurt but it could also damage the hair follicles and affect how your beard grows. If you prefer a brush, choose one with medium to soft natural boar bristles. This type of brush can tackle to unruliest of beards without damaging it.
TIP #5: Drink Water
There’s a direct correlation between water consumption and healthy beard & hair growth. Staying hydrated leads to increased blood flow and circulation. Great blood flow ensures that your skin is getting the important nutrients it needs. Healthy skin is the foundation and is mandatory for a healthy and full beard. Proper hydration keeps your beard’s foundation in peak condition.
Staying sharp takes some work, but can be made easier when you use the right techniques and products. Check out more advice for hair and beard growth and management here on the ChatBox!
