Hi Funky Junkies! Summer’s over, school is back in session and our schedules are FULL. For my family to make it work, we have a strict routine from sun up to sun down. I wanted to share some helpful tips on how to successfully tackle your hair care needs for the entire family.
Tip 1: Prep Day
Sunday “Fun Days” are now substituted for SUNDAY HAIR PREP. This is essential to getting us out of the house on time in the mornings during the week ahead. If I have to wash hair, it’s done on a Sunday… If I decide to do a protective style, it’s done on a Sunday… If I decide to detangle and part their hair for a style to be done on Monday morning, it’s done on a Sunday… Y’all get the point. Lol. Long story short I try to make my SUNDAY Hair Prep Day, my best Day. Leveraging the downtime of the weekend before the craziness of the week starts is essential setting the tone for a good week.

Tip 2: Deep Condition
Deep conditioners are our friends. We try to get a thorough deep conditioning bi-weekly. This helps to keep our hair in good shape for the weather changes; hairstyles or whatever else may come our way. Since we’ve started our deep conditioning regimen, I’ve noticed a huge difference in the overall healthiness of our hair.
Tip 3: Tie It Down!
I have to admit that I didn’t always tie down our girl’s hair. Mornings were insane back then. I’ve lived and I’ve learned. If I’m just prepping for the next day I will use a bonnet. If I’m doing a style I want to last a couple of days, I will use a satin wrap to hold down our edges and put a satin scarf on top of that. I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me it’s worth it.

Tip 4: Adults Only
Listen and listen closely! WAKE UP before the kiddos and try to get yourself together. Even if it’s just 5 to 10 minutes before the craziness of the day, steal some time for YOU. Whether it’s a cup of coffee or reading daily affirmations, morning self care is essential.
Tip 5: Utilize Older Siblings
If you have older kids in the house, put them to work! From helping the younger siblings get dressed, to putting the waffles or pop-tarts in the toaster, find small value added things that can help get out of the house on time.
Education is important and takes a lot of work throughout the process for our kids, that’s why we as parents have to stay on top of it, head to toe! We wish you and yours an awesome school year; remember to keep it funky!
