There are lots of tips out there for moisturizing natural hair, adding luster and other properties of what curly hair products can contribute, but you also need effective methods in place to be able to execute your style properly! - Scrunching. Scrunching is a very popular technique for Frizzy Gillespie (aka wavy) and Whole Lotta Body (aka Curly) Funky Junkies. Specifically, it’s a method of using the fingers to squeeze the ends of the curls up towards the roots, like an accordion. It can be used from start to finish in your routine, including conditioning, drying and styling. Typically, Curly Magic Curl Stimulator especially works to help with this method in that using it before scrunching can help with the definition and hold.
Finding out what your hair loves is just as important as what products you use! - Diffusing. Gadgets that can help with the curly hair styling process are becoming more and more innovative, including diffusers. This one can also be used in the scrunching process, but it ultimately helps by clustering the curls together and assisting with drying the hair without pulling out actual moisture.
- Get a trim! Working to achieve healthy curls can be pointless if it hasn’t been maintained properly, and you haven’t gotten that trim! Most stylists recommend trimming every 3-6 months, but most of us go when needed (aka when we see split ends). Dead ends of the hair won’t curly properly and can affect the rest of your hair of not eliminated, so be sure to keep an eye on this!
- Detangle gently. Pulling on your curls to eliminate tangling can really take a toll on your hair pattern over time.
