Hey Curlfriends! I can’t believe it’s been a year already. If you haven’t seen, Jailen is already making guest appearances in my videos. This time has flown by so fast and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, the good, the bad, and the tired! It’s been a challenging year in so many ways but I wouldn’t change one thing. Going from living out my dreams in New York City, to moving back home with Disney Junior on repeat and nap schedules. Things are definitely different but I am loving my new role as a mom.

Trying to keep a schedule and do things for myself hasn’t been easy, but I can’t complain. What I have mastered is the quick wash days while Jailen naps, it’s a real skill! A quick bun just to avoid looking crazy one more day. Curly Magic is definitely my go to on a quick wash day that I know won’t let me down. I have been trying to get back into a routine with my hair, but on the days when I can’t, spending time with my little one reminds me not to be so hard on myself. Don’t feel bad for taking a break. I had to learn to not be ashamed to take a nap with her instead of being “productive” while she sleeps. You deserve it, taking care of a baby is a real job.

One thing I wish I knew before becoming a mom is every baby is their own individual and not to stress to meet society’s norms. From sleep routines, to milestones and even how long you should breastfeed. Especially if you are breastfeeding, try not to compare your situation to someone who isn’t. Every mommy/baby duo is special and unique in their own way. It can be overwhelming but you have to set our own pace and enjoy the moment because they won’t be babies forever. Those instincts definitely kick in right away and it’s so amazing what us moms are capable of without ever knowing how.

Being a new mom has definitely changed my life in a great way. I really have no idea what I was doing before. My goals have changed so that I’m even better than before so I can be the best version of myself for her. I know this is only the beginning and we have a long way to go and grow together, but I am so grateful for her and cherish the stage we are in now. To all the new moms, we got this, and if nobody has told you today, you are doing a fabulous job!
xoxo
