Hey Curlfriends! Summer is pretty much here and the weather has already started to affect my routine! In the climate I live in, the humidity is really high. I love stretched hairstyles, but unfortunately, I can never get through a summer day without my definition eliminated, to say the least.
One of the reasons I love Uncle Funky’s collection is they are so versatile for all my hair needs.
One of the biggest changes in my routine for the summer is making sure I stick to my weekly wash. Having a head full of hair causes a lot more sweat on my scalp than in the colder months. This is when shampooing versus cleansing conditioners come into play. Squeaky gives me a really deep cleanse without stripping my hair of much-needed moisture. If for some reason I’m in need of a mid-week wash, I will go to my old faithful Bye-Bye Buildup. As always no matter the temperature I make sure to do a deep treatment for 15-30 minutes with Heal & Renew. Having a healthy scalp and moisture has been key to my healthy growing colored hair.
Styling can be very unpredictable in the summer. With trial and error, there is one thing I know not to waste my time with and that is a blowout! I love the stretch it provides but the humidity does not allow me to enjoy it, ever. My go-to styles for summer are wash and gos, and buns. These are the easiest wash days for me. Thirsty Curls really comes into play for mid-week refresh and allows me to avoid buildup. I will be tempted to do a rod set of course, but it must be styled on wet hair. I change my setting technique slightly with flexi-rods to give me a little more stretch, which I would normally get from styling on blown-out hair.
My main focus for summer hair is keeping a fresh scalp, keeping cool, and keeping my style simple. No matter what product you grab from the lineup, you are certain you are getting everything you need for your style to still be quick but not lacking in the nutrients. Low manipulation styles are going to be key to have a healthy stress free summer for my hair. The most important thing to remember is that a little summer frizz never hurt anybody!
