Creators on social media have increased exponentially over the past year. Everyone wants to know how to grow their following! I create content about natural hair and managed to grow my social media following fairly quickly on multiple platforms. The truth is I can directly correlate my growth on social media to three things; being consistent, providing valuable content, and engaging with my audience.
1. Consistency
You can make the decision on what consistency looks like for you based on your lifestyle. I aim to post 7 days a week on all platforms but there are times when that doesn’t make sense for my life. However, I try to show up on social media in some fashion, whether it’s a post, replying back to comments, or engaging in my stories. Make sure to show up often to keep the attention of your audience and increase your chances of someone new finding your content. My following skyrocketed when I posted every day for 30 days. That’s a lot of content but it paid off!
2. Creating Valuable Content
Along with being consistent, you want to make sure you are creating valuable content. One wash day can give you several pieces of content. For example, you can create a video about the importance of shampooing or how to properly deep condition, etc. Being able to answer a question or give a solution to a problem is the best type of content to grab the attention of a potential follower. Take your audience on your journey in hopes that it inspires and helps them on their own.
3. Engaging With Your Audience
Cultivating the audience you have is very important for growth. People pay attention to how you are to your community. Get in those comments, laugh with them, answer their questions, and let them know you appreciate their input.
For the person who aspires to become a natural hair Content Creator who doesn’t know where to start….TURN ON THE CAMERA! Getting started can be the hardest part of becoming a content creator. The excuses seem to never stop; “I’ll start when I get a better camera”, “I need the best equipment to start”, etc…. Use what you have right now!!
As you can tell from all the things I’ve stated, this is not for the faint of heart but it is very much achievable. Keep sharing valuable content while engaging with the audience you have and watch how far you can go. Good luck on your journey!
