Being a busy mom has so many rewards and I love it! I am a mother of four beautiful children, an entrepreneur, and a content creator. With that being said, I understand time is of the essence. As we begin to prepare for the upcoming school year, I’d like to give you some tips on how to keep your curly kids looking fly throughout the school year!

Be knowledgeable about their hair texture.
When it comes to our children, taking care of their hair doesn’t have to be complicated. The first thing I would suggest is to be knowledgeable about your children’s hair (all four of mine have uniquely beautiful hair textures). From this, I am able to better select products tailored to their hair texture. This may seem minor, however, this is important because ALL natural hair needs to be treated with TLC. I also do a small trim every four months to ensure their hair stays healthy and strong. I follow this routine for myself as well!

Use moisturizing products.
Keep in mind that as naturals, our hair tends to be on the drier side so it’s best to keep our hair nice and moisturized! I love using Uncle Funky’s Daughter products because they’re loaded with nutrients that keep my children’s hair moisturized. My favorite products for moisture retention are Richee Rich – a deep conditioner loaded with slip, Thirsty Curls – which leaves the hair feeling so nourished, and Curly Magic – which REALLY clumps the curls! These products work for all of my kids despite their different textures! 🙂

Never skip wash day!
A BIG tip I have for parents caring for their children’s hair is to be mindful of wash day. Have your products and techniques ready! I truly believe healthy hair starts with wash day and making sure the hair is receptive to the products you’re applying. For example, I leave the conditioner in my little one’s hair as I bathe them (5-10 minutes) and I tell my older boys to do the same! This technique allows for the conditioner to penetrate the hair shaft. In addition, I recommend combing the conditioner in after it’s applied. Consistently doing this will make their hair easier to manage and it will prevent tangles from forming.
I hope you enjoyed these healthy hair tips and remember to have an amazing school year!
xoxo
