Caring for your ends can get tricky! Most people assume that it’s not as important because it’s the oldest part of your hair. This is incorrect! Neglecting your ends can jeopardize the length and the overall health of your hair. With the help of routine trims, deep conditioning, and heat-protectant products, you can increase your chances of retaining length.
Trim your ends.
A hairstylist once told me, “If you don’t trim your ends, they’ll trim themselves.” It’s the realest statement I’ve heard because I’ve experienced it first-hand. Because everyone’s hair is different, getting your ends professionally trimmed is the safest way to make sure you are caring for your hair properly.
Weekly moisture check-ins can also help you retain length by preventing dry and brittle ends. Supercurl Miracle Moisture Crème and Extra Butter by Uncle Funky’s Daughter are great products to use when twisting and styling your hair weekly. They will help you retain moisture throughout the week.
Deep condition every wash day.
Deep conditioning is another way to stimulate growth and lock in moisture. Add a shower cap (with or without heat) and a steamer to seal the deal. Moisturized hair will forever reign whether you want to grow your hair 2 inches or 10! I recommend Richee Rich or Heal & Renew for a nice deep conditioning treatment.
Once you complete your wash day routine, add a leave-in conditioner for a boost of hydration during your styling process. My favorite leave-in conditioners (especially when I want to refresh throughout the week) are Midnight Train and Thirsty Curls!
Use a heat protectant.
Lastly, prioritizing a good heat protectant when applying direct heat to the hair will help you retain length. This goes for blowing out hair, stretching, or even diffusing. Yes, diffusing counts! I suggest adding the Split End Serum to your wash day routine. It’s a good quality heat protectant, a little goes a long way and it moisturizes and strengthens the ends of your hair. The Split End Serum is also lightweight enough to get the job done without chalky or sticky residue. The slip it provides is amazing, and it can be used on both wet and dry hair. You can also pick up the Split End Serum at your local CVS!
Hair growth can be a fruitful journey when you use products with the right ingredients. Habits like trimming ends, deep conditioning, mid-week moisture check-ins, and heat protectants ensure you are on the right path! Check them off your list weekly and long, healthy hair will soon follow. You got this, girl!
