The Summer is in full affect, so that means it’s time for protective styles. Protective styles are meant to give your hair a break, so you can focus on other things, like creating your best summer, ever! These have a wide range of capability and vary in length, color and type! Some chose crochet braids, cornrows, braids, or twists… with or without extensions!
I’ve tried multiple protective styles, but now I am switching up with Passion Twists! It’s a very low manipulation style that’s really cute and easy to install. Keep reading to find out what I use to keep them fresh! Although protective styles give you a small break of constantly styling your hair, it’s important to remember to not neglect your hair. Your hair still needs love, care and attention!

Uncle Funky’s Daughter has made it easy and affordable to maintain healthy hair while having a protective style. I have a particular product from the brand I love to use that helps with moisture, shine, hair growth, and neutralizing odor — All amazing and necessary to maintain a protective style.
I love Defunk Hair Refresher Tonic, and it’s my number one product to use on protective styles. The smell alone will captivate you and have your hair smelling amazing! I like to call it “hair perfume”. It’s is an herbal hair and scalp cleanser loaded with plant extracts that neutralize odors, but that’s just not all Defunk has to offer!

It works great to relieve dry and itchy scalp, which is an absolute MUST! Protective styles can cause an itchy scalp, that can at times be unbearable. The tingling and cooling sensation soothes and instantly relieves the itching. Lastly, this all-in-one product works to promote hair growth, strengthening your hair while its taking a break. Defunk is recommended for my naturals protective styling, or my naturals that wear locs! I can not vouch for Defunk enough. A few sprays along my hair and scalp, and that’s it!
