Being Chief Curl Officer here at UFD, my life requires a lot of moving around. Between all of our efforts of getting more #GoodFunkyStuff into your hands and meeting up with you all at trade shows across the U.S., a system to keep everything together is crucial to keeping me sane. As Summer begins to wind down, I am also getting in those last days of vacation with the family, which requires a bit of planning. Want to know how I pack for it all? Keep reading these three easy hacks for traveling light and smart!
- Don’t forget your travel sized bottles! We all know hotel toiletries, especially hair products, aren’t the best and can dry out your hair. Plus, packing travel-sized beauty items avoids the need to check my bag. I have had bags not make the plane and nothing is worse than being on vacation…or at an important business meeting…without your STUFF! Getting to your vacay and not having your essentials is the worst, but you can prevent it by packing light and taking the right things with you! It saves your trip and your hair! Take one of UFD’s four, TSA Approved travel kits with you for your curly hair needs.

Our travel kits really come in handy for travel for work or play! I particularly pack the Crystal Clean Kit for all my cleansers and conditioners I need to get through any trip. It contains our Rich & Funky Moisturizing Cleanser, Squeaky Clarifying Cleanser (great for after the pool when you want to take a dip), Richee Rich Moisturizing Conditioner, Heal & Renew Intensive Hair Masque and Supercurl Miracle Moisture Crème.
2. Maximize your shoe options! Packing too many items in general can weigh you down on a trip. When vacationing, I take one of each style: sandal, heel, sneaker. Three pairs total! The heal and sandal are usually a neutral colored shoe to allow me to flex across styles. For quick business trips, I will often have these same three types of shoes, wearing flats or sneakers on the plane and the heel for my meeting. This way, you can achieve any look or change you need to throughout your trip (and you may even have wiggle room for when you want to shop)!

3. Pack snacks so you have healthier alternatives. Airport snacks are never a good idea when you’re trying to hold true to your diet and keep energy while jet-setting to your next endeavor. This especially helps during unexpected delays and odd travel times when airport restaurants are closed. Packing those snacks is a life saver when traveling with kids like mine who are always hungry! (I also pack other entertainment methods for kids like books and games that keep them busy and saves some of those snacks for me!) Just remember to wait to buy your liquids once you get through airport security to avoid any issues with TSA.
I’m visiting our LA Funky Junkies next weekend — August 8th and 9th — for BeautyCon and hope to see some of you there…or in DC later this month for Ubiquitous! If you’re traveling for the show, or any place else coming up, I hope these tips help you out like they’ve helped me. Let me know in the comments below; safe travels!
xoxo, Renee
