School is back in session, and with all of the excitement of moving into your dorm, campus cruising to become familiar with your surroundings and of course; parties… there are definitely some things that you don’t want to forget to bring with you to make this year run smoothly.
First up, there’s the Bed Rest pillow. I’m sure you’ve seen them before, but never knew their proper name. And if you don’t know what they are, just picture an uber comfy “chair” in your bed. Instead of being stuck at your desk when it comes to doing homework or writing a paper you can be in the comfort of your bed; with your back comfortably supported. Heck, you can even use it to chill and watch Netflix!
Whether you drink coffee or not, (which you’ll probably start once those papers and long nights start picking up), you can use a Keurig not only for coffee, but for hot water for tea, oatmeal or any other creative idea you come up with. There are smaller models that are perfect for that little nook in your room, without looking cluttered. Definitely invest in one.
While it’s pretty obvious that you’ll need a laptop; it’s not so obvious to many that an External Hard Drive should be just as high on your priority list! It’s an easy way to backup your work in case your laptop decides to crash before you can save your progress. They’re really a great safety net.

While some are lucky enough to have a private bathroom in their dorm room; the majority aren’t, so it’s a great idea to have a Shower Caddy handy to carry around all of your beauty and hygiene products; and have them stored away in your room with quick and easy access.
Which brings me to my next suggestion. Shared bathrooms and showers also mean less time to dedicate to a luxuriously long wash day routine; so, Uncle Funky’s Daughter’s Bye Bye Buildup is the perfect option for a quick co-wash that not only gently cleanses, but tames frizz and nourishes your curls.
While we’re talking about shared bathrooms; Poo-Pourri is another necessity. Just because you share a bathroom; doesn’t mean others need to know that you went. You can use it, and no one will ever know.
Of course your monthly visitor is inevitable, so it’s also a great idea to build yourself a Period Kit, stocked with Tampons or Pads; or both. Sanitary Wipes, Pain Reliever Medicine, Tea Bags and even a heating pad if that soothes your cramps. Personally, a heating pad is a god-send!

Since Candles aren’t allowed in dorm rooms, a really cute Essential Oil Diffuser would be the perfect addition to your room. Not only to keep smells at bay, but also for health purposes. Essential Oils are like magic in a bottle for things such as sinus infections, headaches, help going to sleep and even helping you to focus better.
Doing laundry in college is dreaded; I get it. But let’s not make it worse by forgetting a Laundry Bag. You definitely don’t want to try and carry your clothes in your arms; since the laundry room could be a couple of floors away depending on your dorm layout. Make it less stressful by having a bag.
And last but not least, a Hoodie is crucial! Of course there are days where you’ll want to dress up and get cute, but there will equally be days (especially during that time of the month) where you’ll just want to be comfortable. Not only comfortable, but warm; since common areas and lecture halls can be as cold as ice. Stay comfy and toasty!
There’s totally a lot more things you’ll need and want to make your year run smoothly, but I sure hope you’ve crossed some of these things off of your list. And it’s made even easier since all of the items suggested can be found all in one convenient place; Walmart!
Have a great year; you got this!

Love this! I’m not in school but many of these things are essential for normal day living, self care and productivity. Now if only I could get another bathroom that hubby could have to himself and one for me and my wash days then I’d be all set lol. Definitely a great list!
