4 Reasons Your Hair Is Not Growing

One of biggest complaints I hear in the natural hair community is “Why is my hair not growing?”. Knowing that we are all living beings, growing your hair is not the problem, the problem is keeping it. A lot of people confuse the lack of retaining length with the concept of their hair not growing. Your hair should grow on average about 1/2 inch a month. You may ask, what will happen if I continue with my bad hair habits? Well, you will never see the full potential of your hair growth. The most important tip from this article is to simply make your hair a priority.

1. Develop the “Less is More” Method

The easiest way to start a healthy hair routine is to stop doing what you’ve done in the past. When you are dealing with damaged tresses, the more you continue to do to your hair the worse off it will become. Less is always more. You don’t have to have a large collection of products, try sticking to the basics. The thing I love most about Uncle Funky’s Daughter is that they have a large selection of products for your everyday needs. Furthermore, Uncle Funky’s Daughter is packed full of protein that absorbs deep in the hair shaft which restores dry, broken ends. These ingredients are lightweight and promote hair growth. With this, your weekly wash day should consist of cleansing, conditioning, and a leave-in. The final step is to choose the perfect styler of your choice, which should be routine in weekly styles.

Implementing low manipulation will allow your hair to grow and reduce breakage.

 2. Protect Your Strands

One of the most important parts of your routine is implementing low manipulation hairstyles. Hairstyles as such will allow your hair to grow and alleviate tension on your scalp. As a result, this will prevent any unwanted breakage, especially if you are transitioning. For instance, protective or low maintenance hairstyles such as twist outs, perm rod sets, and flexi rod sets, will reduce shedding. Even so, a protective style is key to a curly girl. Another key factor to getting your styles to last throughout, is to implement weekly treatments. With each wash day, you should be doing a deep conditioning treatment with heat or steam. This will lock in much-needed moisture to your shaft, which will result in preventing breakage that leads to damaged hair. Also with the added moisture, your hair will regain strength.

 3. Restore Follicles With Weekly Deep Conditioning

Uncle Funky’s Daughter has a great silk protein treatment. This hair masque strengthens and rebuilds dry hair and replenishes damaged ends. The protein in this masque can often be found in your deep conditioner. Sooner or later, you won’t need to search for an additional hair masque. This is personally my ultimate favorite masque that leaves my hair super moisturized and strong. Starting your styles off with a great masque will lock in moisture and leave your styles hydrated throughout the week preventing any unwanted hair loss. Continuing with this, let’s get into the benefits of cutting your ends.  I found out that a lot of people don’t like the idea of a big chop. Trust me… I wasn’t a fan either, but there aren’t ways of getting around it. If you are dealing with any damage that’s preventing you from seeing any length due to breakage, try trimming.

Using the right products can make a world of difference.

4. Stimulate New Hair Growth

Lastly, you can now monitor your ends and trim every 3-4 months. This is a sure way you don’t lose all the length and maintain healthy hair. I’ll let you in on a little secret, your scalp may need some extra attention. You might think this is not news to you, but this is a factor in preventing balding. Simple steps like stimulating your scalp in a circular motion is a sure way to kick start your hair growth journey. In the same way, massaging oil into your scalp every night or every other night will increase your hair growth. Furthermore, you don’t have to do a million things to start seeing changes. A few other recommendations products are….

  1. Bye-Bye Buildup to help cleanse.
  2. Heal & Renew for a weekly deep conditioner.
  3. Good Hair for a leave-in.
  4. Curly Magic for my go-to styler.

My suggestion is to be patient and follow these simple steps. You will see growth. You got this!

xoxo-
