After having 3 children, I realized having a healthy diet was needed way before giving birth. It was unbeknownst to me that eating well, working out, and watching your overall health was so important. I thought I would be skinny forever. Let’s just say, I wore a size 3 after having my second daughter and my waist never looked better! I could eat anything in sight and I wouldn’t gain an ounce of weight. All of that changed when I had my son a few years later. I was officially thirty, and my weight was starting to stick, that’s when I changed my lifestyle. I couldn’t depend on my family’s good genes to get me through life. I was on an uphill journey to making a better life for both my family and me.

Toss Out The Diet
I can recall seeing a certain celebrity starting to promote a trendy diet. This one diet in particular, caused her to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time. She looked amazing! We’re always so intrigued by the celebrity lifestyle, not knowing that they are being paid to promote for a living. Let’s just say after trying the same diet I became sick, physically sick. I couldn’t keep any of my food down. I went to the nearest grocery store and bought everything green and leafy. I vowed to start eating healthier and getting rid of dieting in its entirety. My mom had a saying, “You eat to live, and not live to eat!”, let’s just say she was right! My healthy lifestyle was the peak of maintaining a better life.
Eliminate Sugar
Anyone who knows me can vouch that I am a snacker. Some people actually think that the snacks in the crevices of my purse are for my children. I’ve noticed after snacking throughout the day my lower stomach would become bloated, this was due to the carbs turning into sugar. At this point, my body wasn’t breaking down food properly. My purse turned from Willie Wonka and The Chocolate Factory to Whole Foods in no time. I am now packing veggies and fruits to eliminate cavities and unwanted doctor visits.

Workout When Possible
Being a busy mom of three, it’s hard finding the time to work out. The kids, as well as my husband, are a workout in itself. Honestly, who has the time to do both? I remember when I was initially looking for a gym membership, the trainer advised me that was the main excuse women would give when signing up. In actuality, I don’t have time to brush my teeth before leaving in the morning, so how can I dedicate an hour to working out? My mission is to get fit by any means necessary. My new routine now includes taking the stairs, making multiple trips to get groceries, and waking up early to make homemade smoothies.
I’ve learned that maintaining a healthy lifestyle requires time and consistency, but I am willing to make those changes. I have a newfound respect for mothers with multiple children. These women have the discipline to stay motivated and master their self-care.
